If you are not a mover it is extremely difficult for you to understand the terms by which the mover will charge you. The mover can claim that the same items he gave you his estimate for are heavier or bulkier and therefore you need to pay him more money. If you receive a price based on cubic feet many times you are at the mercy of the mover and depend on how efficiently he packs the truck for you. Many moving companies do not want you to have such clarity simply because they want to have the chance to charge you more at the day of the move. On average movers using an “estimate only” method will charge you between 50% to 80% more than what they originally quoted you.
